Morality is defined as “ principles concerning distinction between right and wrong or good and bad behavior “ . Values are all the things we think are important in life. Growing up as a Jehovah’s Witness there were a lot things that I do now or that I have done that would be considered “ morally wrong “ to them. Just like a lot of us grew up and were conditioned to believe our parents morals and have them pass down their values. To be completely honest though, some parents barely had any or maybe they didn’t teach the right ones. So that will leave us to find out on our own. The most important step to figuring out your morals and values is self awareness. When your morals are clear , it becomes a part of who you are as a person. When your values are clear , making decisions is a lot easier, because you know what is important to you. The two go hand in hand. For example you can think it’s morally correct to treat people how you would want to be treated ( which is definitely important) . So something that you would value is kindness. It’s also morally incorrect to most to lie , so something you value is honesty and genuineness. In relationships , you believe it’s morally correct to love your person in the best way they want to be loved. So you value them and their love languages. Having values and morals is key to having the right mindset in the world. Tupac said “ If there was no money and everything depended on your moral standard, the way that you behaved, and the way that you treated people , how would you be doing in life ? “ . What is really comes down to is how you want to show up in the world ? Now even if something that you value is kindness and then you get angry and say something mean or do something to hurt someone that doesn’t make you a bad person. You can always come back from that , one of my morals is that peoples mistakes do not make them , but how they come back from them does. That’s because something that I value is redemption and reconciliation. It’s imperative that we as people live in our values and walk it like we talk it. You can’t go around saying you’re the best Man ( “ I’m him “ or the best Woman ( “ I’m Her “ ) when your actions and character match nothing to your words. Now in todays world , yes everyone has different opinions. So some can say that a person can’t determine the “ right morals “ and what “ good values are “ . Yes you absolutely can, and if you disagree with that you have a lot more healing to do and this is not the blog for you. A quote by William Penn says “ Right is right , even if everyone is against it; and wrong is wrong, even if everyone is for it.” This blog post was very important to me just because of all the things I see on the other sides of social media. With so many different trends coming back, I’m waiting for genuine morals and values to come back. It doesn’t matter how many friends you hang out with, how many people you date, what you own, what car you drive, how much fun you have , or even what your name is. How you treat people is most important. The law of cause and effect, what you put out you will eventually receive. So everyone let’s just be mindful of how we show up in the world and live up to who you say you are. The most important value is definitely Integrity , which is being honest and having strong morals. “ Without a moral compass the human mind will justify anything “ - Mehrnaz Bassari. Finding out your morals and values is the easy part. Ask yourself questions like : What do you think is most important about a persons character ? Which ways do you feel people should treat you ? How do you want to treat others ? What’s an important aspect to your character ? How do you want others to view you ? . The hard part is living by the values and morals. Which isn’t really that hard when you are self aware and know what you want to receive from the world so that’s what you put into it.
